Household Waste and Recycling Centres.
The Household Waste and Recycling Centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
We will collect real Christmas trees in the weeks starting 12 January and 19 January. Put your tree out on your normal rubbish collection day on the alternate week to your recycling collection. The trees will be collected for free and then shredded and composted.
You can also take your tree to the Household Waste and Recycling Centres.
There are various charity collections for Christmas cards. You can also put them in your cardboard bag as part of your household recycling collection.
Envelopes can go in your household recycling collection. White envelopes should go into the paper bag, coloured or brown envelopes should go with the cardboard.
We can take wrapping paper that isn’t coated with foil or plastic. Please put all non-shiny wrapping paper in bag for paper, and remove any sticky tape, string or ribbons.
Over Christmas there are a lot of extra cardboard boxes. Flatten the boxes and put them in the orange cardboard bag.
If the boxes are too big, flat pack them, tie them in a bundle and put them out next to your recycling. If you have very large amounts of cardboard, you can either take it to your local Household Waste and Recycling Centres or put it out for the kerbside collection over a couple of weeks.
Tin Foil
Put scrunched up tin foil into the sack for plastic bottles and cans.
You can put chocolate and biscuit tins out for recycling in the sack for plastic bottles and tins. We can only accept metal sweet and biscuit tins. We can’t take the plastic tubs.
If you have more kerbside recycling then usual, please put it out in carrier bags. Glass bottles and jars must be put in a rigid box.
Many of us tend to over cater at Christmas, and this shows in the amount of food and extra rubbish we collect in the New Year.
The best way to reduce food waste is to write a shopping list and stick to it.
Think about how many people you will be feeding and just buy enough for them. Remember, if you don’t like sprouts, you don’t have to buy them!
From Rebecca Payne
Stolen – Early hours of Thursday morning from Higher Road Pensilva, Landrover 110 distinctive sign written vehicle, winch on front, worklights on back also all of my husbands tools and diagnostic equipment (mobile mechanic) also stolen in same timeframe were power tools from Mendology garage doors.
We believe the Landrover was taken at around 3AM, it was then sighted at between 7 and 8AM on the lanes between Golberdon and Callington.
My husbands business and livelihood has been taken in one go, because it is such a distinctive vehicle we believe it is likely to be hidden somewhere and at the moment we suspect it could still be in the Golberdon area.
Please report sightings of the vehicle also be on the look out for toerags selling expensive good make tools (snap on, mac tools e.t.c).
UPDATE – Rebecca Payne The landy was found on Saturday pm by someone that had seen our post on fb, obviously the contents have gone.
We along with David Rogers of Mendology garage doors are offering a total reward of £1500 for information leading to a conviction and a sizeable amount of the contents returned.
We believe the stolen items are likely to be in the local area, these people are not professional thieves, they seem to have forgotten a few things.
UPDATE – A white transit van has been seen selling tools in the Pensilva / Callington area. Please tell the police if you come across it.
Anyone (like the owner) who knows anything about a Honda Stepwagon, Registration number, P227 KBC, which has been parked or abandoned for some considerable time on the Village Hall Car Park, in Church Hill, Pensilva.

This year Cornwall Council is embracing digital channels as part of its budget consultation process to encourage as many people as possible to join in the conversation.
Earlier this month the Council published its proposals for saving £196m over the next four years. The unprecedented scale of the savings required means that all areas of the Council are affected by the draft proposals. However, rather than simply ‘salami slice’ every service, the authority has developed a four year plan which will help protect the three key priority areas identified by the public and Members during last year’s budget consultation. These are services for the most vulnerable in society (including vulnerable adults, children, older people and the poorest), public transport, and road repairs and maintenance.
We want to hear the views of local residents, businesses and partners on where cuts and savings could be made and to come up with any suggestions for increasing income. As part of this consultation we are holding 19 consultation events across Cornwall during October to enable people to find out more about their budget proposals and to have their say. Details of the consultation events are available from our website.
As well as broadcasting a live webcast about the budget on the evening of September 30 from the Council Chamber, we are also hosting a live, two hour online question and answer session on Thursday, 25 September when Alex Folkes, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources, will be available for people to ask questions on the budget and the future of Cornwall.
Using the Council’s existing live chat facility, Cover it Live, people will be able to take part in the live, online conversation both through our website and the main social media channels. There will be no complicated sign on process, people will simply be able to visit their platform of choice and s_ubmit a question or suggestion. The chat will then be shared across all the channels; live.
On 25 September Facebook users should go onto the Cornwall Council Facebook page where they can join the chat live between 12-2pm, while Twitter users can join in the same conversation using the hashtag #haveyoursay . On Facebook, users will have to click on the Cover it Live tab found directly underneath the page’s cover photo to access the chat.
For those not on social media but with access to the internet, the chat will also be available on the Council’s Have Your Say web pages at http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/public-participation-and-consultation/cornwall-council-budget-engagement-2014/

“This is the first time we will be hosting a live online chat across all the main digital channels “ said Alex Folkes. “More and more people are now choosing to have their say throughFacebook, Twitterand our website and this will give them the opportunity to ask questions and receive an immediate response .
I am certainly looking forward to taking part and I hope as many people as possible will log on and join in the online conversation”.
